Effective April 28, 2025, Act No. 3 of 2025 established the Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities which consists of Office of Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities, the Office of Mental Health and the Office of Substance Use Services. The Department of Behavioral health and Developmental Disabilities office of Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (BHDD-OIDD) is now the Office of Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (OIDD).

Definition:

Respite is care and supervision provided to individuals unable to care for themselves. Services are provided on a short-term basis because of the absence or need for relief of those persons normally providing the care. Respite may be used on a regular basis to provide relief to caregivers or in response to a family emergency or crisis.
