The SC Department of Disabilities and Special Needs (DDSN) and the Greenwood Genetic Center (GGC) have worked together since 1974 to serve individuals with developmental delay, intellectual disability, learning disabilities, autism, and birth defects.  Genetic evaluations are available to all DDSN clients through GGC’s statewide network of clinical offices.

The purpose of a genetic evaluation is to attempt to find the cause of an individual’s learning problems and/or birth defects.  Services offered include genetic evaluations, counseling, and diagnostic testing (if appropriate and desired) with the goal of improving the quality of life for all DDSN clients and their families.

A referral can be made to one of GGC’s five clinical offices through your DDSN case manager or an Early Interventionist.  GGC will bill private insurance, Medicaid, or Medicare for genetic services when applicable.  There is no direct cost or billing to DDSN individuals or their families for genetic services provided by GGC.
