Columbia, South Carolina – The South Carolina Department of Disabilities and Special Needs (DDSN) would like to announce the newly-elected 2022-2023 Executive Officers of the Commission on Disabilities and Special Needs:

Vice-Chair - Barry Malphrus

· Vice-Chair - Barry Malphrus, Beaufort, South Carolina. District 1: Beaufort, Berkeley, Charleston, Colleton, Dorchester counties

 

Secretary - Robin Blackwood
· Secretary - Robin Blackwood, Greenville, South Carolina, District 4: Greenville, Spartanburg


South Carolina DDSN is governed by a seven-member Commission appointed by the Governor with the advice and consent of the Senate. A Commission member is appointed from each of the state's seven Congressional districts. The Commission of the South Carolina Department of Disabilities and Special Needs normally holds monthly meetings on the third Thursday of each month at 10:00 AM in Conference Room 251 at the S.C. Department of Disabilities and Special Needs Central Administrative Office, 3440 Harden Street Extension, Columbia, South Carolina. Prior notification will be provided of any change in date, time, or location of a meeting.
DDSN strives to serve all South Carolinians who are eligible for services and to ensure that services meet high standards. The populations served by DDSN include individuals with Intellectual Disabilities, Related Disabilities, Autism Spectrum Disorder, Traumatic Brain Injury, Traumatic Spinal Cord Injury, and Similar Disabilities (disabilities affecting the brain or spinal cord which are not associated with the process of a progressive degenerative illness or disease, dementia, or a neurological disorder related to aging).
